Box Score 2 CARY, N.C. – Sophomore Stuart Brown (Midlothian, Va./Trinity) drove in three in the opener and freshman Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) fanned 12 in the nightcap as the Randolph-Macon baseball team swept an ODAC doubleheader from Guilford at the USA Baseball Complex.
The Yellow Jackets (7-0, 2-0 ODAC) won the opener 8-5 while edging the Quakers (3-7, 0-2) 3-2 in Game 2.
Brown had three hits in Game 1, including an RBI double in the fourth to give R-MC a 2-0 lead. His run-scoring single in the sixth tied the score at 3-3, while his RBI base hit in the eighth snapped a 4-4 tie and put the Yellow Jackets ahead to stay.
Senior Nate Meiners (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's Prep) went 3 for 5 with one run and one RBI, while Michael Kroll scored three times and Jay Patti knocked in a pair.
Sophomore Nic Phelps (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) (2-0, 2 IP, 5 H, R, K) earned the win in relief, while senior JT Williamson (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) allowed two hits and struck out a pair in the ninth for his first save.
In the nightcap, Spiers retired the first 17 Quakers before allowing a two-out single in the sixth. He worked 7.1 innings with three hits, two runs, no walks and 12 punchouts. Williamson struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save.
Junior Nick Maiolo (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) delivered an RBI single in the third, while junior Christian Sanderson (Lynchburg, Va./Jefferson Forest) and sophomore Jordan Schmeer (Richmond, Va./Benedictine) both delivered run-scoring singles in the fifth to give R-MC a 3-0 advantage. Chuck Noble hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth for GC.
Randolph-Macon is scheduled to host Marymount on Wednesday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m.
