Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Va. – Freshman Nelda Bagley (Kenbridge, Va./Central) tossed a two-hit shutout and junior Madison Gilman (Glen Allen, Va./Patrick Henry) had a grand slam and drove in five as the Randolph-Macon softball team split a doubleheader with 10th-ranked Christopher Newport Sunday afternoon at the R-MC Softball Field.
The Yellow Jackets (4-2) won the opener 8-0 in five innings before the Captains (5-4) took Game 2 by a score of 11-2.
Bagley walked one and fanned four in five innings to raise her record to 3-0.
Gilman went 2 for 2 with two runs and five RBI. Her third-inning grand slam gave R-MC a 5-0 advantage.
Junior Sierra Ford (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) had two hits and two runs, while senior Amanda Sopko (Skippers, Va./Greensville) walked twice and scored three times.
In the nightcap, junior Katie Woody (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) had a two-run homer in the fourth.
Randolph-Macon hits the road to play an ODAC doubleheader at Sweet Briar on Wednesday, March 18 at 3 p.m.
