Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Freshman Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) scored four goals and added a pair of assists as the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team's late rally fell just short in a 16-14 loss to Mary Washington at Day Field.
The Eagles (5-1) scored the first three goals of the match before Hsieh got the Yellow Jackets (2-2) on the board eight minutes into the contest. UMW scored the next three goals to push its advantage to 6-1. The Eagles netted the final two goals of the period and led 11-5 at intermission. Hsieh had a pair of goals in the first half.
UMW tallied the first two goals of the second half to take an eight-goal lead at 13-5. Hsieh scored to start a three-goal run for the Yellow Jackets to make it a 13-8 deficit with 23 minutes remaining. The Eagles tallied a pair to lead 15-8 with 17 minutes left. R-MC would score six straight goals, with junior Katie Russo (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) recording the first and the last in the spurt, as the Yellow Jackets made it a one-goal game at 15-14 with five minutes remaining. Emily Atkinson scored her fifth goal of the game with 2:53 left as the visitors took a 16-14 lead and held on for the win.
Junior Shannon Jamieson (Cypress, Texas/Cypress-Woods) and freshman Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, Va./Woodson) both registered a pair of goals for the Yellow Jackets.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m. at Guilford to open ODAC play.
