Vugteveen's Double-Double Not Enough in 85-84 loss at E&H

EMORY, Va.—Junior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, VA / Amelia Academy) registered a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team dropped an 85-84 decision at Emory & Henry in ODAC action Saturday afternoon.

Junior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) tallied 22 points and senior Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, VA / J.R. Tucker) added 21 points and five boards for the Yellow Jackets (18-4, 11-3 ODAC).

The Yellow Jackets faced an early deficit after a 21-4 run by the Wasps (12-11, 7-7 ODAC) in the first seven minutes of the first half. A three-pointer by Livermon at 7:16 capped a 23-7 run by R-MC to cut the Wasps' lead to one point at 28-27. Sophomore Marisha Berry (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) found Livermon for another three-pointer with 5:34 remaining until halftime to give R-MC its first lead of the game. A layup by freshman Kareema Conteh (Riverdale, MD / Parkdale) at 3:35 stretched the Yellow Jacket's lead to double digits. The Wasps cut the lead to five points with 1:14 left but a layup by Vugteveen with 0:08 remaining gave the Yellow Jackets a nine-point advantage (46-37) at halftime.

The Wasps opened the second stanza with an 11-4 run to tie the score at 50-50 at 16:55. The Yellow Jackets worked their advantage back up to four points but the Wasps tied the score at 55-55 with 12:35 remaining. The Yellow Jackets would hold the lead for the next six minutes. Vugteveen capitalized on two steals and stretched R-MC's advantage to seven at 8:59 before the Wasps responded with a 10-0 run to reclaim the lead, 73-70. The score would be tied 77-77 after Livermon knocked down a trey with 3:04 remaining. The Yellow Jackets quickly reclaimed the lead with a 6-0 run after a block by Vugteveen allowed Parsons to knock down a three-pointer followed by another trey from Livermon on the next possession. The Wasps capitalized on free throws to cut R-MC's lead to one point, 83-82 at 0:26. Chloe Harris drained the game-winning three-pointer for E&H to claim an 85-84 victory.

Junior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, VA / Patrick Henry) tallied six points, nine rebounds and five blocks for R-MC.

Junior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, VA / Cape Henry Collegiate) paced the Yellow Jackets with six assists.

The Yellow Jackets return home to Crenshaw Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 17 at 7:00 p.m. for an ODAC contest against Shenandoah.
