Anderson Records Second Double-Double in Win Over CMSV

ASHLAND, VA. – Senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) notched her second double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team defeated Mount Saint Vincent 72-67 Saturday afternoon on the second day of the 2015 R-MC Tip-Off Classic, sponsored by Riesbeck Contracting.

Senior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va. / Amelia Academy) also notched a double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds. She grabbed eight offensive boards and nine on defense for the Yellow Jackets (2-0).

Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) led all scorers with 26 points.

Vugteveen scored the first bucket of the game followed by a three-pointer from junior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) and a jumper from Livermon to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-0 advantage. The Dolphins (0-2) tied the score at 12-all. Freshman Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa. / Central York) hit a jumper with 4:54 left in the first quarter to expand R-MC's lead to three points at 15-12. Mount Saint Vincent cut its deficit to one-point at 18-17 to end the first quarter.

The momentum switched in the second quarter in favor of the Dolphins. Livermon nailed a three-pointer to extend the Yellow Jackets' lead back to four points at 9:53. The Dolphins gained the advantage at 7:13 and led by as many as four points before Livermon tallied a layup to tie the score at 31-all. The Yellow Jackets faced a 39-35 deficit at halftime.

The Dolphins scored an early layup to hold a 41-35 advantage. The Yellow Jackets used a 14-0 run in the third period to re-gain the lead for good. Vugteveen tallied six rebounds during the spurt, three of which were offensive and kept the play alive for the Yellow Jackets as they held an eight-point, 49-41 advantage with 3:08 remaining in the third quarter. The Dolphins used a last second layup to cut R-MC's lead to 54-49.

Anderson scored three layups to begin the fourth quarter to give R-MC its largest lead of the game, 60-50, with 7:52 to play. Mount Saint Vincent went on a 4-0 spurt but the Yellow Jackets kept the advantage and expanded their lead back to 10 points with a 6-2 run to hold a 66-56 edge. The Dolphins accrued a 6-0 spurt to pull within four points but Livermon nailed a three-pointer to give the Yellow Jackets a seven-point cushion at 69-62 en route to a 72-67 victory.

Senior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) led the Yellow Jackets with four assists.

Intermill registered eight points and two assists.

Anderson was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2015 R-MC Tip Off Classic and Livermon was named to the All-Classic Team. Joining Livermon were Zarkia Mattox of Ferrum, Christina Barone of Mount Saint Vincent and Michelle DeSantis and Melissa Errico of Catholic.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 17 for a 6 p.m. contest against Marymount in Crenshaw Gymnasium.
