Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sophomore Christine Simon (Richmond, Va./James River) went 6 for 8 with a double and two RBI as the Randolph-Macon softball team split an ODAC doubleheader at Randolph on Sunday.
The Yellow Jackets (15-7, 7-5) won 7-3 in Game 2 after falling 3-2 in eight innings in the opener.
R-MC scored four in the top of the third in the nightcap to take the lead for good. Simon went 3 for 5 with an RBI, while sophomore Jenna Best (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) went 2 for 3 with two runs.
Freshman Kelsey McLaughlin (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) pitched in relief and earned the win, going five scoreless innings with four hits, no walks and four strikeouts to raise her record to 8-4.
McLaughlin started Game 1 for the Yellow Jackets, allowing nine hits and three runs (two earned) in seven innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
R-MC trailed 1-0 before a run in the top of the seventh forced the extra frame. The Yellow Jackets added a run in the top of the eighth before the Wildcats rallied for two in the bottom of the eighth.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, April 9 for a 3 p.m. ODAC doubleheader at Sweet Briar.
