SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Senior Olayemisi Ogunshina (Baltimore, Md./Wilde Lake) and freshman Kelsie Grice (Hoover, Ala./Charlotte Country Day) recorded singles wins, but the third-seeded Randolph-Macon women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to second-seeded Roanoke in the semifinals of the ODAC Championship.
The Maroons (16-2) were able to pull out all three doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Sophomore Angelina Sportelli (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) and freshman Toni McDonald (Richmond, Va./Varina) lost a close 9-7 match at No. 1 doubles. Ogunshina and Grice fell 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.
Ogunshina dominated at No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-0) to narrow the margin to 3-1. Roanoke pulled out a win at No. 6 singles to make it 4-1. Grice had a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles (7-5, 6-3) to cut the deficit to two at 4-2. The Maroons earned a win at No. 3 singles to clinch the victory.
The Yellow Jackets had their win streak end at seven. R-MC finished the year with a 15-6 record.
