Box Score SALEM, Va. – Sophomore Katie Woody (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) had two hits and four RBI as fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon eliminated No. 3 Randolph 11-7 Saturday afternoon in the ODAC Softball Championship.
The Yellow Jackets (24-11) will face No. 2 Lynchburg this evening at 8:30 p.m. in another elimination contest.
The Wildcats (27-15) scored a run in the bottom of the first before senior Carolyn Gilbertson (McLean, Va./McLean) belted her second home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
Randolph put three on the board in the bottom of the second before R-MC took the lead for good with four in the third as junior Sharese Jarvis (Cobbs Creek, Va./Mathews) delivered a three-run double and scored to give the Yellow Jackets a 5-4 advantage.
Woody followed suit with her own three-run two-bagger in the fourth as R-MC took an 8-4 lead. Sophomore Sam Moore (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) belted her team-leading 11th home run to spark a two-run sixth and Woody added a run-scoring single in the seventh to make it 11-4. Randolph tallied three in the bottom of the seventh to complete the scoring.
Gilbertson finished with three hits, including two doubles, and three RBI, while junior Amanda Sopko (Skippers, Va./Greensville) added three hits and three runs for the Yellow Jackets.
Freshman Kelsey McLaughlin (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) went the distance, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs with one walk and one strikeout to raise her record to 14-6.
