Box Score SALEM, Va. – Freshman Kelsey McLaughlin (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) was dominant on the mound as fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon defeated No. 2 Lynchburg 4-2 Saturday evening in an elimination game in the ODAC Softball Tournament.
The Yellow Jackets (25-11) will have to win three times on Sunday to claim its first ODAC title. R-MC will face sixth-seeded Guilford at 10:30 a.m. in the finals of the losers' bracket. The winner will meet top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan for the crown and have to beat the Marlins twice.
McLaughlin allowed six hits and two runs with no walks and three strikeouts. She raised her record to 15-6.
The Yellow Jackets scored three in the top of the second to take control of the contest. Sophomore Jenna Best (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) had an RBI double, senior Carolyn Gilbertson (McLean, Va./McLean) had a run-scoring bunt single and freshman Katie Lockett (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) capped the rally with an RBI single to make it 3-0.
The Hornets put up a pair in the bottom of the third to make it a one-run contest. R-MC added to its lead in the sixth as sophomore Sam Moore (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) drew a leadoff walk and scored on a base hit by sophomore Madison Gilman (Glen Allen, Va./Patrick Henry) to make it 4-2.
Best and Lockett both finished with two hits for the Yellow Jackets.
