Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Christine Simon (Richmond, Va./James River) drove in six as the Randolph-Macon softball team swept a doubleheader from Franklin & Marshall on Sunday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets took the opener 10-1 in five innings and the nightcap 9-1, also in five innings, to raise their record to 5-1.
In the opener, Simon went 1 for 3 with two runs and two RBI. R-MC did not score in the first, but tallied three in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth.
Sophomore Sam Moore (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) homered, scored twice and knocked in a pair, while sophomore Jenna Best (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) had two doubles and three RBI for the Yellow Jackets.
Best went the distance on the mound, allowing one hit and one run in five frames with one walk and two strikeouts.
In Game 2, Simon tripled and drove in four to pace the Yellow Jacket offense, which used a six-run second to take control. Moore went 2 for 2 with a double and one RBI, while Best was also 2 for 2 with a run and one RBI.
Freshman Kelsey McLaughlin (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) surrendered one hit in four innings with one walk and four strikeouts to raise her record to 3-0.
The Yellow Jackets will head to Salisbury, Md., this weekend for its spring tournament. R-MC will face Washington & Jefferson, Wilkes and Hunter along with the host Seagulls.
