outfielder Michael Wallman
(Forest, VA / Jefferson Forest) (1-for-3) recorded his first
homerun of the season as the Yellow Jacket baseball team defeated
St. Mary's 16-6 this afternoon in the Hawk's Nest.
R-MC (4-5) posted two runs in the first inning following
back-to-back hits by Bryan Miltenbeger (Midlothian, VA / Cosby)
(3-for-4) and Tim Benjamin
(Glenelg, MD / Glenelg) (3-for-5) to give the Jackets an early 2-0
lead.
Down 5-4 in the top of the fourth, a single down the right field
line by Blake Saathoff
(Catonsville, Md / Archbishop Spalding) (2-for-4) sparked a two-run
surge for R-MC followed by 2 RBI from Miltenberger's first double
of the season. A two run homer by Wallman in the fifth advanced the
lead to 8-6. The Yellow Jackets picked up two more runs after a St.
Mary's wild pitch and sacrifice fly from Miltenberger.
R-MC would go on to tally six more runs on eight hits to seal
the ten run victory. Benjamin and Nate Meiners
(Silver Springs, MD / St. John's Prep) (2-for-5) each recorded a
double while Miltenberger led the team with two doubles and five
RBI. Both Benjamin and Wallman added two RBI alongside Travis Lodge
(Chesterfield, VA / Motoaca), Mitchell Keeler
(Mechanicsville, VA / Atlee), Jordan Schmeer
(Richmond, VA / Benedictine), Michael
Trentham (Midlothian, VA / James River), and Michael Kroll (VA
Beach, VA / Cape Henry Collegiate) who each had one RBI.
Junior right-hander Jake Bram (Pasadena,
MD / Chesapeake) notched his first win.
The Randolph-Macon baseball team returns to Ashland this
Saturday, March 1 to host Bridgewater College for a double header
at Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park. First pitch is scheduled for
12:00 pm.
