Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Andrew Oakes (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Randolph-Macon men's soccer team to a 4-1 ODAC victory over Emory & Henry on a soggy Saturday afternoon.
The Wasps (3-7-1, 1-5 ODAC) scored in the sixth minute, but the Yellow Jackets (3-9, 1-5 ODAC) responded quickly as sophomore Sam Bowen (Collegeville, Pa./Haverford School) tallied his first goal of the season in the seventh minute on an assist by junior Ryan White (Kilkeel, Northern Ireland). Oakes snapped the tie with his third goal of the season in the 15th minute on an assist by junior Greg Noordanus (Leiderdorp, Netherlands/Cape Henry Collegiate). Freshman Brian Lutz (Colonial Heights, Va.) registered his first collegiate goal in the 31st minute on an assist by Oakes to give R-MC a 3-1 advantage at halftime.
In the second period, sophomore Tyler Slayton (Mechanicsville, Va.) converted a penalty kick for the Yellow Jackets in the 73rd minute to make the final 4-1.
R-MC held a 24-4 advantage in shots. Lutz led the Yellow Jackets with six shots, including three on goal. Bowen finished with four shots for R-MC.
Sophomore C.J. Montalbano (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) recorded a pair of saves for the Yellow Jackets.
R-MC returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 14, with a 7 p.m. ODAC match at Randolph.
