Box Score 2 HARRISONBURG, VA – Randolph-Macon Baseball took both games of a doubleheader against Eastern Mennonite Sunday to complete their 61 inning, six game week with a 4-1-1 record. The Yellow Jackets took game one 7-5 before completing the sweep with an 11-7 win in game two.
The Royals opened up a 3-0 third inning lead in game one when Jonathan Estrada doubled in a pair of EMU runners. B.J. Mortimer followed with a run scoring double of his own later in the inning.
Jeb Weymouth scored on a wild pitch in the fourth before Nate Meiners singled up the middle to plate Michael Trentham and cut the R-MC deficit to just one.
After the Yellow Jackets tied it in the fifth on a Tim Benjamin RBI groundout, Michael Kroll led off the sixth with a solo homerun to put Randolph-Macon on top 4-3.
The advantage would be short lived as Austin Oliver tied it up in the bottom half for EMU with a run scoring single up the middle.
R-MC's offense came to life again in the eighth inning when Jake Fletcher singled and then stole second. Weymouth followed with a single up the middle to score Fletcher and retake the lead. Benjamin then stepped to the dish and delivered a double to left center, scoring Weymouth. Travis Lodge grounded out to second later in the inning to bring home Benjamin and push the advantage to 7-4.
Eastern Mennonite pulled within two after scoring a run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.
The Royals had two on with one out in the bottom of the ninth but the Yellow Jackets' closer Will Jennings struck out the final two batters to seal the win and pick up his fifth save of the season.
Fletcher paced R-MC with a 3-for-4 game at the plate that included a double and two stolen bases. Weymouth and Trentham both went 3-for-5.
Jake Bram earned his first win of the season after allowing four earned runs and striking out three in seven innings on the mound. Glenn McLaughlin gave up one run in one inning of relief.
The Yellow Jackets struck early and never trailed in an 11-7 game two victory. Benjamin drove in a run with a sacrifice and Trentham singled home a run to give R-MC a 2-0 first inning edge.
Randolph-Macon doubled their lead in the second when Mitchell Keeler doubled in a run and Fletcher singled down the right field line to score Keeler.
Eastern Mennonite rallied for three runs in the third inning, highlighted by a Ryan McAlister RBI triple, to pull within one.
RBI groundouts from Keeler and Weymouth put R-MC up 6-3 in the fourth but EMU answered in the bottom half with a pair of runs coming on an RBI single and a wild pitch.
The Yellow Jackets offense did not let up as they tacked on two more runs in the fifth on infield RBI singles by Kroll and Fletcher. Kroll's two run single in the sixth put the game away for Randolph-Macon as relievers Tanner Phillips and Brandon Beiler combined to shut out Eastern Mennonite in the final three innings.
Jake Fletcher went 4-for-5 in game two with four stolen bases and two RBI. Keeler finished 2-for-6 with a double and drove in a pair of runs while Kroll was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two walks.
Matt Fischgrund earned the win on the mound, allowing five runs and striking out nine in six innings of work.
