Box Score 2 ASHLAND, VA- Randolph-Macon Baseball dropped game one of their doubleheader with Lynchburg 8-0 before rallying four times in a 10-10 tie in game two. The Yellow Jackets are now 12-12-1 overall and 6-7-1 in the ODAC.
R-MC has now played 43 innings of baseball since Tuesday afternoon and travels to Eastern Mennonite Sunday, April 7th for a 12:30 doubleheader.
LC took a 3-0 lead in game two when Jake Tanner doubled to drive in three runs in the second inning.
Jake Fletcher belted a two run homerun over the wall in left to pull the Yellow Jackets within one in the fifth.
The Hornets pushed their lead to 6-2 by scoring a run in the sixth, seventh and eighth but RBI singles from Tim Benjamin and Michael Trentham cut the advantage to 6-4 heading into the ninth.
Randolph-Macon's ninth inning rally started when Travis Lodge pinch hit to lead off the inning and reached on an error. Lodge then went to second on a wild pitch before a Michael Kroll single put runners at the corners with no outs. Mitchell Keeler followed with a single to left to score Lodge and cut the deficit to one.
Fletcher stepped to the dish next and executed a sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third. An intentional walk to Jeb Weymouth loaded the bases for Benjamin who hit a ground ball to the right side, driving in the tying run.
After a scoreless 10th and 11th, Lynchburg drove in runs on a Dustin Arrowood RBI single and a Jay Kenyon sacrifice fly to take a two run lead.
Randolph-Macon answered in the bottom of the 12th when Lodge doubled off the wall in left to score two runs and knot the score at 8-8.
Lynchburg broke the tie again in the 15th on a Michael Kenah sacrifice fly but the Yellow Jackets came through in the clutch again to extend the game on Fletcher's RBI single with two outs.
Kenyon singled in another run for the Hornets in the top of the 16th to go back on top 10-9.
With two outs in the bottom of the 16th, Nate Meiners stepped to the plate with a runner on third. Meiners delivered a single to center, scoring the pinch runner James Overbeek and tying the game at 10-10.
The game was called following the 16th inning due to darkness and is officially scored as a tie. The contest marks the longest game in the ODAC this season.
Fletcher led the Yellow Jackets with a 4-for-7 game two performance. The senior had a homerun and drove in three runs. Weymouth and Trentham added three hits while Lodge was 2-for-5 with two RBI.
R-MC used seven pitchers in the game with starter Michael Helbig allowing three earned runs in 6.2 innings. Will Jennings tossed a scoreless ninth and tenth to continue his streak of 13 appearances without allowing an earned run.
Dan Savage paced Lynchburg with a 4-for-5 performance on the way to an 8-0 victory in game one. Savage had a double, triple and drove in a pair of runs.
The Hornets scored three in the second, two coming on a Lincoln Evans double down the right field line. LC added two in the fifth and two in the sixth to pull away from the Yellow Jackets.
That would be more than enough offense as Martin Henderlite scattered three hits over seven innings and struck out five to improve to 7-1 on the season.
