Ashland, VA – The Randolph-Macon College women's lacrosse team dropped a close 12-10 contest to #14 Christopher Newport University on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fall to 11-5 on the season, while the Captains improve to 17-1.

Senior, Emily Lynch, led R-MC with four goals, one assist, and three draw controls. She also had two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Betsy Hebert and Alyssa Chavez each added in two goals. Jenelle Whitman also had a game-high nine draw controls.

Christopher Newport lit up the scoreboard first with an Ashton Marshall goal a little over one minute into the game. R-MC answered with two goals in one minute from Lynch and Hebert to take a 2-1 lead.

CNU then went on a 5-0 run capped by a Kylie Chaplin goal at the 14:04 mark to give the Captains a 6-2 lead.

The Yellow Jackets scored three more times, including two scores from Lynch, to pull within three at 8-5 at the intermission.

Five minutes into the second half, Katie Russo tallied her only goal of the game to make the score 9-6 with 25 minutes left to play. CNU scored two consecutive goals at the 20 minute and 15 minute mark to increase its lead to 12-7.

The Yellow Jackets put together a late rally, scoring three goals over the next seven minutes with a score by Lynch off a free position shot and two goals from Alyssa Chavez, but that is as close as R-MC would get.

Nicole Woodworth took the loss in goal, finishing with 11 saves off of 23 shots.
