Box Score 2 ASHLAND, VA - Randolph-Macon Baseball (16-13-1 / 10-7-1 ODAC) swept Emory & Henry College on Saturday by scores of 6-2 and 17-4.
Mitchell Keeler started the offensive parade in game one, blasting a 3-run home run off Emory & Henry starter Jessup Lambert in the third inning, scoring Zach Broaddus and Nate Meiners. Three batters later, Tim Benjamin provided a 2-RBI double down the left field line, scoring Jake Fletcher and Jeb Weymouth and extending the lead to 5-0.
Emory & Henry answered with two in the top of the fourth off R-MC starter Jake Bram to cut the lead to 5-2.
Fletcher would answer for R-MC in the fifth, hitting a solo home run to give the Yellow Jackets the 6-2 lead.
Bram earned the win, tossing five solid innings while allowing just two earned runs. Matt Fischgrund tossed the final four innings, earning his first save of the season. Fischgrund allowed no runs, while striking out five.
Keeler and Fletcher led the offense for the Yellow Jackets in game one, both posting multi-hit performances.
The Yellow Jackets used 18 hits in game two and a quality start from Michael Helbig on the mound to cruise past Emory & Henry 17-4.
R-MC scored in every inning except the 8th.
Benjamin, Fischgrund, and Broaddus all collected three hits apiece, while each driving in multiple RBI. Fletcher, Michael Trentham, and Travis Lodge also collected two hits apiece to round out the attack.
Helbig picked up the win for R-MC, tossing seven innings while allowing just one earned run and six hits.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, April 17, when they host the #8 ranked Christopher Newport University Captains. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 P.M.
