Ashland, VA – The Randolph-Macon College women's tennis team notched an 8-1 conference win Sweet Briar on Wednesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets improve to 8-11 overall while the Vixens are now 5-11.
R-MC swept the three doubles matches starting with Angelina Sportelli and Olayemisi Ogunshina as they outlasted Sarah Manter and Emma Merritt 8-1 in the first doubles match. Courtney Owens and Caty-Betz Holcomb teamed up to post an 8-3 second doubles win while Violet Hahn and Reba Sledd combined to notch an 8-1 third doubles win.
In singles play, the Yellow Jackets captured the first four singles matches, but Sweet Briar won the fifth singles match 8-5. Sportelli earned a 6-0, 6-0 first singles win for R-MC. Owens posted a 6-1, 6-3 second singles win and she was followed by Ogunshina who earned a 6-2, 6-3 third singles win.
Holcomb and Jane Oh closed out the win with victories in the fourth and sixth singles matches respectively. Holcomb won 6-3, 6-1 while Oh's victory came by the score of 8-5.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, April 13th when they travel to Norfolk State in a non-conference match starting at 3:00 p.m.
