Box Score Ashland, VA – The Randolph-Macon College Women's Lacrosse team defeated ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan in a thrilling 13-12 contest. The Yellow Jackets improve to 9-4 overall and 4-4 in ODAC play, while the Marlins fall to 4-9 and 3-4 in the conference.
The Marlins came hot out of the gate, scoring two goals in the first 1:30 of the game. R-MC responded with two goals of their own. Emily Lynch put the first points up on the board for the Yellow Jackets. Shannon Jamieson scored the equalizer at the 23:14 mark, tying the game at 2-2.
Both teams traded goals the rest of the half and knotted the score at 6-6 at the intermission.
Lynch gave R-MC the go-ahead goal to start the second half. VWC then went on a 4-2 run to take a 10-9 lead with 22:08 left to play.
Katie Russo sparked a 4-2 Yellow Jacket run and the scored final goal with 2:37 left to play to give R-MC the 13-12 victory.
Russo led the offensive charge with four goals off of five shots and picked up four ground balls. Jamieson, Lynch, Natalie Schnell and Betsy Hebert each added two goals in the win. Hebert also dished out a team-high two assists, while defensive player, Tricia Mangas, picked up a team-high six ground balls.
Brooke Cabeceiras led the Marlins with four goals and six ground balls. Nikki Salyers added three and Kelly Jacobson chipped in two. Chloe Weinmann had a game-high 10 draw controls.
Nicole Woodworth recorded the win in goal, finishing with 11 saves. Madison Carroll suffered the loss for the Marlins and finished with nine saves.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action April 13th when they take on Bridgewater College at 1:00 p.m.
