Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon used three runs in the eighth inning Tuesday afternoon to win 5-2 versus Methodist University.
Sophomore Tim Benjamin led the Jackets, going 2-for-3, driving in three and scoring twice. Jeb Weymouth, Jon Witt, and Nate Meiners also tallied two hits for R-MC (4-6).
After two scoreless innings, Meiners got the scoring going. The sophomore delivered a two out bases loaded single scoring Benjamin.
Methodist (7-10) responded in the top of the fourth, as Tyler Younger singled home Travis Johnson.
Benjamin would answer for R-MC, knocking a double off the left field fence scoring Michael Trentham.
The Monarchs scored an unearned run in the sixth, setting up Randolph-Macon's rally in the eighth.
With runners on first and second, Benjamin doubled down the right field line scoring Weymouth and Trentham. Two batters later, Benjamin would come around to score on a wild pitch.
Matt Fischgrund provided a strong start on the mound for the Yellow Jackets. The junior right-hander pitched seven innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits. Glenn McLaughlin (1-0) pitched a scoreless eighth, earning his first victory of the season. Freshman Will Jennings shut the door in the ninth, earning his second save.
Mikie Morrison took the loss for Methodist. Cody Molosky tallied two hits, while Tyler Younger knocked in both the Monarch runs in the defeat.
Randolph-Macon returns to action this Saturday for an ODAC doubleheader versus Washington & Lee. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 P.M.
