Box Score YORK, PA – Randolph-Macon Baseball (10-9 / 5-4 ODAC) scored six runs in the fourth inning on the way to a 9-2 victory over York College (Pa.) Thursday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets, winners of their last two, travel to Roanoke College Saturday for a 3:00 doubleheader.
York College got on the board in the bottom of the third when Dustin Worthman doubled down the left field line, scoring Andrew Hersey who reached on a single.
Randolph-Macon answered quickly in the top of the fourth, pushing across six runs. Nick Williamson led off the inning with a single before a walk to Mitchell Keeler and Jake Fletcher's fielder's choice loaded the bases for Jeb Weymouth. Weymouth was then hit by a pitch to score Williamson and Tim Benjamin drew a walk to make the score 2-1.
Jon Witt stepped to the plate next and delivered a two run single through the left side to double the run total. A balk by the Spartans' pitcher scored Benjamin before Nate Meiners' RBI infield single capped the six run outburst.
The Yellow Jackets padded their lead in the sixth when Travis Lodge drove in a run with a bases loaded groundout Meiners knocked a two run single to center.
York pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth but Randolph-Macon's bullpen tossed the final three and a third innings without allowing a run to seal the 9-2 victory.
R-MC starter Matt Fischgrund (1-1) allowed just two earned runs over five and two thirds innings to pick up the win. The junior scattered eight hits and struck out two.
JT Williamson tossed a third of an inning and struck out one. Brandon Beiler pitched a perfect seventh and Austin Bain struck out two in a scoreless eight. Tanner Phillips and James Overbeek combined to shut down York in the ninth.
Witt finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI while Weymouth added a pair of hits with an RBI and stole a base. Meiners went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Michael Trentham finished 2-for-3. Nick Williamson also added a pair of hits.
Josh Kohn is saddled with the loss for the Spartans after allowing five earned runs in three innings.
