Box Score Ashland, VA – Randolph-Macon College Women's Lacrosse dropped a 13-7 decision to ODAC opponent Washington and Lee on Wednesday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets take their first loss of the season and fall to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Generals improve to 4-6 over all and 4-1 in the ODAC.
Shannon Jamieson, who had three goals, led the R-MC offense. Jenelle Whitman also had a goal, while Emily Lynch had two goals and one assist in the loss. Maggie Benson led the defense with a team-high five ground balls, while Nicole Woodworth had 18 stops at goalie for the Yellow Jackets.
W&L's offense was led by Meade Brewster's three goals off of five shots along with four ground balls and five draw controls. Carly Taglienti, Annie Murphy and Amelia Murcott both had two goals for the Generals. Taglienti also picked up five ground balls. Cara Mulligan recorded the win in goal and finished with nine saves.
In the first 10 minutes of play, the Generals took an early 3-0 lead capped by a Katie Hagen unassisted goal.
R-MC answered with an Emily Lynch goal at the 19:16 mark to pull the Yellow Jackets within two.
W&L would score again four minutes later to bring its lead back to three. The Yellow Jackets got a goal from Jenelle Whitman, assisted by Lynch, to make the score 4-2 with 10 minutes left to play in the first half.
Washington and Lee scored three more goals over the course of the last 10 minutes to take a 7-2 advantage at the half.
The Generals started out the second half with a goal from Murcott in the first minute to expand their lead to six.
Shannon Jamieson put the Yellow Jackets on the board in the second half, scoring twice off free position shots to make the score 8-4 with 16 minutes to go.
W&L scored two consecutive goals with in two minutes to go up by six with 13:24 left in the game.
After a foul on W&L, Katie Russo scored on a free position shot to pull the Yellow Jacket within five with 11 minutes left, but that is as close as they would get as W&L scored three goals in the final eight minutes to secure the win.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on March 30th as they host Roanoke College for a 1:00 p.m. game.
