Box Score Arlington, VA – Katie Russo scored five goals as the Randolph-Macon Women's Lacrosse team defeated Marymount 12-10 in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.
Randolph-Macon jumped out a 3-0 advantage when Russo scored three goals in the first 7:52 of play.
Three consecutive goals by Marymount helped the Saints tie the score at 3-3 with 19:20 left to play.
R-MC's (5-0 / 1-0 ODAC) Shannon Jamieson sparked a 4-0 run with a score at the 19:02 mark, while Rachel Johnsen scored with just over one minute left to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-3 lead at halftime.
Marymount opened the second stanza with a Stephanie Keane tally to make it 7-4 R-MC with 27:37 to play in the game.
The Yellow Jackets built their lead after Russo and Emily Lynch both scored within one minute to take a 9-4 advantage.
Marymount started to rally with a Taylor Johnson goal that notched the score at 9-5 with 24:27 to play. The Saints then went on a 4-1 run, capped by a Keane goal, to pull within one at 10-9 with 9:38 left in the game.
A Lynch free-position goal gave the R-MC the two-point lead with 7:18 to play, while Jamieson scored the final Yellow Jacket goal at the 4:41 mark to secure the victory.
Nicole Woodworth played all 60:00 minutes in goal for the Yellow Jackets and made 14 saves on the day.
Russo led the charge with five goals and two ground balls, while Lynch tallied three scores, two ground balls and three draw controls. Jamieson registered two goals and a team-high three ground balls in the win.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Hollins for a 1:00 p.m. game.
