Box Score 2 ASHLAND, VA – Jeb Weymouth's walk-off single scored Austin Carpenter and capped a late inning rally by Randolph-Macon to earn a win over St. Mary's in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday. Two Seahawks pitchers would combine to help the Seahawks to a shutout victory in the series finale.
Trailing 3-2 heading into its final at-bat of the seven inning contest, Nate Meiners drew a walk to lead off the inning and chase SMC starter Wick Eisenberg from the game.
Nick Williamson followed with a single to move Meiners to second. Carpenter's bunt attempt was then misplayed by SMC to load the bases.
After Meiners was cut down on a fielder's choice for the first out, Jake Fletcher walked with the bases loaded to bring home Williamson and tie game at 3-3. Weymouth would then follow with a base hit to the right side to score Carpenter and give R-MC the win.
Tanner Phillips threw two innings of one hit relief to pick up the win in his first collegiate appearance. Carlos Cruz was saddled with the loss after coming in for Eisenberg in the decisive seventh inning.
Michael Trentham, Tim Benjamin and Carpenter all had two hits for R-MC in the win. Jared Eaker was 3-for-4 for St. Mary's.
In game two, Devon Jerrard and Sam Coe combined to allow just four Yellow Jacket hits as the Seahawks salvaged the final game of the series 4-0.
SMC got all the runs it would need in a second inning that saw the Seahawks score three runs with two outs off R-MC starter Matt Fishchgrund.
Down 4-0 in the sixth inning, R-MC loaded the bases with two outs but Coe was able to get Benjamin to fly out and halt the Jackets' best scoring chance of the game.
Randolph-Macon will return to action on Wednesday when it travels to No. 8 Christopher Newport for a 2:00 p.m. game.
