Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Behind five goals from Nikki Salyers, Virginia Wesleyan scored a 14-7 ODAC Women's Lacrosse victory over Randolph-Macon on Tuesday afternoon.
R-MC (6-5 / 3-2 ODAC) got two goals from Emily Lynch, Kelly Egan and Rachel Johnsen in the loss to the Marlins. Johnsen also grabbed five groundballs and four draw controls, while forcing four Marlin turnovers.
In addition to Salyers, VWC (4-8 / 2-3 ODAC) also got two goals each from Taylor Harding, Natalie Belva and Candace Carey.
VWC outshot R-MC 24-22 on the afternoon, while the Jackets won the groundball battle 23-18, led by Johnsen's five and Nicole Woodworth's four.
After Lynch scored to make the score 3-2 with 12:42 to play in the first-half, VWC closed the half on a 5-1 run, including a Harding strike with just 13 seconds to go, giving the Marlins a 8-3 lead at the break.
With the score 10-4, goals by Egan and Johnsen in a span of 1:11, cut the R-MC deficit to four with 20 minutes to play in the contest.
That would be as close as the Jackets would get as the Marlins scored four of the next five goals in the final 17 minutes to put the game away.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Hollins at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the game, R-MC will honor its seniors Kelly Egan and Louisa Meyer.
