Box Score ASHLAND, Va--- Guilford needed a 20 save afternoon by keeper Liza Mettler to hold off R-MC Women's Lacrosse 16-10 Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets dropped to 8-7 overall, 4-4 in conference play, while the Quakers improved to 9-4 on the year, 6-1 in the ODAC.
After falling behind early, Randolph-Macon rallied to cut the deficit to 4-3 off a goal by Emily Lynch with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first stanza. Guilford responded, netting two straight scores before Lynch found the back of the net again to make it 6-4. A Summer Frazier score just before the end of the first half would send Guilford into the intermission with a 7-4 lead.
The Quakers struck first again in the second half with two goals in under two minutes. The Yellow Jackets rallied scoring three consecutive goals to make it 9-7. Alicia McGrew started the scoring for R-MC seven minutes into play. Four minutes later, Betsy Hebert found Lynch for Lynch's fourth goal of the contest. Audrey Hester followed with a score 40 seconds later to cut the deficit to 9-7.
After two quick scores by the Quakers, Lynch struck again, beating the goalkeeper twice within one minute, with the ladder goal being assisted by Kelly Egan. E'leyna Garcia put the game away through the second half by scoring three goals in four goal spurt that put GC up 15-9.
Rachel Johnsen found Egan with three minutes remaining and Guilford scored 30 seconds later to give the final score.
Randolph-Macon outshot Guilford 37-29, including a 13-5 edge in free position shots.
Lynch led the Yellow Jackets with six goals on 11 shots on the afternoon. Summer Frazier paced Guilford with five goals in the win.
Liza Mettler earned the win for GC, totaling 20 saves in the victory. Nicole Woodworth took the loss for R-MC, recording 10 saves on the afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets return to the field Tuesday, April 17th when they travel to Christopher Newport. Game-time is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
