ASHLAND, Va--- Randolph-Macon College women's tennis picked up its first ODAC victory of the year as they defeated Sweet Briar, 5-4 Thursday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-5 overall, 1-3 in conference play, while the Vixens dropped to 0-3 on the season, 0-2 in the ODAC.
R-MC won two out of three doubles matches on the day. Reba Sledd and Chelsey Jones teamed up to top Allie Raifsnider and Rachel Byrd, 8-1. Jessie McCollum and Jane Oh partnered together to defeat Courtney Todd and Yuliya Rigg, 8-6.
After dropping the first two matches in singles action, R-MC rallied to win three of the final four matches. No. 3 seed Oh recorded the first singles win for the Yellow Jackets, cruising by Raifsnider, 6-2, 6-1. Jones, the No. 5 seed topped Todd, 6-1, 7-5 and McCollum defeated Rigg in sixth seed match, 7-6, 1-6, 6-4.
Randolph-Macon returns to action this weekend when they play host to Ferrum. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
