ASHLAND, VA --  Shenandoah used a 6-1 run to open the second-half, breaking open what was a tight game at halftime and then held off an Randolph-Macon rally in the closing minutes to top the Yellow Jackets 17-11 in women's lacrosse action.

SU (9-2) scored three goals in the first 3:56 of action before a Kelly Egan goal at the 24:59 mark, got R- (5-4) on the board,  making the score 3-1.

After goals by Erin Oliver and Corinne Kosmowski pushed the Shenandoah advantage to 5-1, R-MC's Betsy Hebert tallied a goal with 13:02 to go in the half.   Emily Lynch scored 17 seconds later on a free-position shot to make 5-3, before scoring again 32 seconds after that to make it 5-4.

A pair of scores by Samantha Sission to end the half sent the teams to the locker room with SU leading 7-4. 

Sission then scored 49 seconds stanza to make it 8-4 and ignited the 6-1 run by the Hornets, with a Kosmowski tallying making it 13-5 with just under 15 minutes to play in the game.

With the score 16-6, Rachel Johnsen scored off a feed from Lynch with 3:30 left on the clock.  Audrey Hester scored eight seconds later to make it 16-8, before Hebert made it 16-9 on a free-position goal.

Lynch scored back-to-back goals in a 45 second span following Hebert's strike, making it 16-11 with 1:59 to go.  That would be as close as R-MC got as SU grabbed the draw control and scored to make it 17-11.

Lynch finished the game with five goals and an assist.  Hester and Hebert scored twice, while Nicole Woodworth made nine stops in net for R-MC.

Sission scored six goals for SU, while Mary Kogler had a hat trick and Ashley Cross turned away nine shots in goal for the Hornets.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it returns to ODAC play when it travels to Bridgewater for a 1:00 p.m.
