Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph-Macon Women's Lacrosse team used a strong second-half to rally from an early deficit and top ODAC rival Randolph 12-10 on Tuesday afternoon.
After the game was delayed due to lighting in the area, Randolph jumped out a 4-0 advantage when Nushaa Kaz scored with 18:50 to go in the first-half of play.
Goals by Emily Lynch and Kelly Egan helped R-MC cut its deficit in half before Randolph's Ashley Edwards made it 5-2 with just under 11 minutes left on the clock.
R-MC's (4-2 / 1-0 ODAC) Betsy Hebert sparked a 4-1 run with a score at the 8:55 mark, while Audrey Hester scored on a free-position strike with just over five minutes left to knot the game at 6-6.
Back-to-back goals gave Randolph an 8-6 advantage before a Rachel Johnsen goal as time expired sent the teams to the intermission with the Wildcats leading 8-7
Randolph opened the second stanza with a Taylor Klevenz tally to make it 9-7 with 27:33 to play in the game.
The Yellow Jackets rally started with a Hebert goal that was set up by Johnsen to make it 9-8 with 26:16 to play. R-MC then goal from Egan and took the lead when Johnsen stuck at the 15:14 mark of the half.
A Danielle Haney free-position goal gave the WildCats the equalizer with 12:42 to play, but R-MC would come right back 50 seconds later when Egan set up Hebert for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Egan scored with under five minutes to go to tack on insurance and seal the first ODAC win of the year for R-MC.
Nicole Woodworth made eight saves on the day including key stops in the first-half to keep Randolph from extending its early lead and anchored a defense that allowed just six shots in the second-half of play.
Johnsesn score two goals and added an assist, while causing five turnovers and grabbing five groundballs. Hebert had four goals, Egan registered three goals, while Hester had one goal and a pair of assists in the win.
Randolph-Macon returns to action at home on Saturday when it hosts Sweet Briar at 12:00 p.m.
