ASHLAND, VA—Elyse Cooper scored
five of her seven goals during an 11-0 Randolph-Macon run to get
past No. 5 seeded Virginia Wesleyan 20-11 in the ODAC Women's
Lacrosse Quarterfinals on Saturday in Ashland. The No. 4 seeded
Yellow Jackets will now face No. 1 seed Washington and Lee
Wednesday, April 28th in Lexington at 5:00 p.m.
Kristen McGrath capped a 3-0 opening run for the Marlins with a
goal less than four minutes into the contest.
Kelly
Cramer (Charlottesville, VA/ Albemarle), Logan Pomeroy
(Catonsville, MD/ Catonsville), and Cooper (Crownsville, MD/ Old
Mill) then rattled off consecutive goals to tie the game at 3-3
with 22:28 to go in the first half.
The two teams exchanged goals to bring the score to 5-5 before
Virginia Wesleyan netted two goals in less than a minute to take a
7-5 advantage with 10:33 remaining before intermission.
Randolph-Macon then went on an 11-0 run that lasted from the
10:19 mark in the first half until 25:22 remained in the second
half.
Cooper netted five goals over that span including the final
three goals coming in just 37 seconds. Cramer scored three goals
and Erin Claire Cassidy (Potomac, MD/ Holton-Arms) found the back
of the net twice during the run.
The Yellow Jackets led by as many as ten in the second half
before finishing off the Marlins for a 20-11 ODAC Quarterfinal
victory.
R-MC goalie Alex Flammia
(Springfield, VA/ West Springfield) finished with 12 saves
including eight in the second half.
Cooper scored a season high seven goals which is also the most
goals scored by a Yellow Jacket in a single game this season.
Cramer had four goals and two assists. Pomeroy and Cassidy both
netted three goals each.
Laura Norris led the Marlins with seven total points including
four goals and three assists.
Randolph-Macon Women's Lacrosse will now travel to the top
seeded Generals of Washington and Lee Wednesday, April
28th in the ODAC Tournament Semi-Finals. W&L
defeated R-MC by just one goal during the regular season in
Ashland. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
