ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon scored eight unanswered goals
to close the game as the Yellow Jackets topped Virginia Wesleyan
16-8 Thursday afternoon in ODAC Women's Lax action.
Kelly Egan had five goals and two assists to lead R-MC (6-3 /
4-2 ODAC) with seven points on the day. Elyse Cooper added four
goals, while Erin Clare Cassidy had a hat trick in the win. Alex
Flammia made nine saves in the cage for R-MC.
Egan scored three goals in the first 3:42 of the contest to
stake R-MC to an early 3-0 lead. R-MC then pushed ahead 5-1 on a
Logan Pomeroy goal with 20:55 to go in the first-half.
VWC (5-10 / 4-3 ODAC) would battle back, scoring six of the
final seven goals of the opening 30 minutes of play, to take the
game at 7-7 at the intermission.
The teams would exchange goals to open the second stanza,
putting the score at 8-8 with just under 27 minutes to play in the
game.
Two goals by Egan in a 37 second span boosted R-MC to a 10-8
advantage before a Kelly Cramer strike with just over 24 minutes to
play made it 11-8.
Cooper would strike three times in the final 22 minutes of plays
and Cassidy scored a pair of goals down the stretch to seal the
victory for R-MC.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts
ODAC rival Sweet Briar at 12:00 p.m.
