Box Score ASHLAND, VA - Kristyna Hnizda and Lauren Zegowitz scored four
and three goals, respectively as they led Stevenson to a 15-12
non-conference win over Randolph-Macon on Monday afternoon in
Ashland.
R-MC (7-6) got on the board first when Morgan Hutchinson
converted a free-position shot to put R-MC up 1-0. Stevenson (8-6)
ran off four consecutive goals, with Hinzda scoring three in the
run, the last coming with just under 14 minutes to go in the first
half that put the Mustangs up 4-1.
The Yellow Jackets responded with a 4-1 run, with Hutchinson
scoring a pair to help R-MC to pull within one at 5-4 with 5:36 to
go.
After Stevenson pulled ahead by three, Hutchinson and Elyse
Cooper each tallied a goal to make the score 7-6, in favor of the
Mustangs.
After the Mustangs got back-to-back goals from Lisa Baker and
Spencer Kraus to go up 9-7, Logan Pomeroy scored with 2:41 to play
in the opening frame to cut the lead to 9-8.
Stevenson's Brittany Connelly tallied a goal with 41 seconds on
the clock, before R-MC Laura Fox's scored at the horn to send the
teams to the intermission with the Mustangs up 10-9.
Stevenson scored back-to-back goals to open the second half to
push its lead to 12-9. Two goals by Hutchinson later in the half
brought R-MC within two at 13-11, but Mandi Carr and Zegowitz put
the game away with insurance goals down the stretch.
Alex Flammia made eight saves in the cage for R-MC, while Jenny
Schroder and Devan Malone combined to make 11 stops for Stevenson.
Hutchinson finished with a game-high six goals for R-MC, which
outshot Stevenson 31-26. The Mustangs won the ground ball battle
19-11.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it
travels to Sweet Briar for a 1:00 p.m. ODAC game.
