ASHLAND, Va. – After an incredible two-year career at Randolph-Macon College, McKenzie Matheny has been named as an assistant coach for the Women's Basketball program.

As one of the most decorated players in Yellow Jacket history, Matheny was named as a Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America Honorable Mention in each of her two years with the Lemon and Black. She was also tabbed to the D3hoops.com All-Region VI Third Team for two consecutive years, while earning All-ODAC First Team Honors in each of those two seasons. Furthermore, as a Team Captain for the Yellow Jackets, she earned a spot on the WBCA 2026 Senior All-Star team, while also qualifying as a CSC Academic-All-District student-athlete.

Matheny finished her career at RMC with 22 double-doubles, which ranks sixth in Yellow Jackets Women's Basketball history. Thanks to her efforts, the Yellow Jackets reached the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2005-07. She was also part of a 2024-25 squad that clinched the ODAC Championship title and reached the Sweet 16 in the Division III postseason tournament.

Prior to her time at Randolph-Macon, Matheny spent two years at Mount Saint Mary's. For the Mountaineers, she saw action in a total of 40 games at the Division I level.

Off the court, Matheny has been a Basketball Camp Counselor at West Springfield High School for five years. She gained experience in directing summer camps, while leading basketball drills and skill development activities for participants of all ages. The 2026 graduate also worked as a Sales Associate at Orangetheory Fitness for six years.

"It is always special to hire a former player to join our coaching staff," said Head Coach Lindsey Burke-Eberhart. "It speaks to the person McKenzie is and the future coach she will be. We are very excited for all the knowledge and expertise she will bring to the areas she will oversee."
