SALEM, Va. - The third-seeded Randolph-Macon softball team took the early lead in the pod two elimination game, but second-seeded Shenandoah fought back to take down the Yellow Jackets by a score of 7-5.

How it HappenedÂ
- In the second inning, Bailey Talley (Craigsville, Va./Buffalo Gap) reached on a fielding error by Shenandoah and Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) reached on a fielders choice. Riley Koscinski (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester) kept the inning going by reaching on a fielding error by the Hornets. Jordan Brown (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) knocked in Talley and Hill with a single up the middle, giving Randolph-Macon the 2-0 lead. Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) kept the inning going with a double down the left field line to plate Brown and Koscinski. The big hits would shoot the Lemon and Black into a 4-0 lead.Â
- In the bottom half of the inning, Keagan Cooper led off the inning with a single and Aimee Ord was sent in to pinch run. The Yellow Jackets had two outs in the inning, but Payton Jensen doubled in Ord to get the Hornets on the board. Allison McQueeney singled up the middle to bring home Jensen and cut the RMC lead in half at 4-2. Shenandoah scored the final run of the inning on a Cadence Rieg single to score McQueeney, as Randolph-Macon held a slim 4-3 lead.Â
- Shenandoah had Paige Eagleton double to leadoff the third inning and she would later score on a Kelly Hartman fielders choice. The one run tied up the game at 4-4.
- In the fourth inning, Jensen singled to start the bats for the Hornets. She later scored on a Brenna Westwood single and Shenandoah took its first lead of the game at 5-4. Makayla Cox singled home Westwood to create more of a gap between the Hornets and Yellow Jackets, SU leading 6-4.Â
- Shenandoah saw McQueeney single and later score on a Westwood single, pushing the deficit to three runs for RMC.
- In the sixth inning, Boswell hit a two out double and Katerina Brabson (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) scored her on a single through the left side of the infield. The Lemon and Black would still trail 7-5 in the game.Â
- Randolph-Macon did get the go-ahead run to the plate in the top of the seventh inning, but Shenandoah managed to get the final out and take the win 7-5.
Inside the Numbers
- Sierra Kegley (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) started the game and went 3.2 innings, giving up six runs on eight hits. Kailey Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Colonial) finished the final 2.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits. The duo combined for five total strikeouts.Â
- Boswell ended the day with two doubles and two RBIs.
- Brown completed the game with two hits and two RBIs.Â
- Brabson recorded the final RBI for the Yellow Jackets.
