NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Women's Lax fell in a hard-fought battle Wednesday night in Newport News, Virginia, in a midweek showdown with #22-ranked Christopher Newport.

How it Happened
- Three minutes into the game, Campbell Conway (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) put the Yellow Jackets ahead by one on a free-position shot. 30 seconds later, the Captains responded, levelling the game at one a piece. Christopher Newport tallied the next two goals, taking a 3-1 lead in the first seven minutes of play. At the 4:20 mark, Lilly Fowler (Phoenix, Md./Notre Dame Prep) weaved her way through the defense and cut the deficit to one. With 3:51 on the clock, CNU extended the lead back to two on a goal from Elena Sorkin. 49 seconds later, Fowler found the back of the net for her second goal of the night to put the Yellow Jackets within one heading into the second frame of play.
- The Captains opened the second quarter, recording the first shots, all of which hit the post. At the 10:56 mark, Conway started a three-goal run for the Yellow Jackets to take the lead 6-4. RMC controlled the ball for the next five minutes until the 5:24 mark, when the Captains tallied a goal in transition to cut the Lemon and Blacks' lead to one. Two minutes later, Conway added her fourth goal of the night and extended the lead back to two in the process. Both teams traded possessions into the end of the first half.
- CNU wasted no time out of the break, finding the back of the net on a shot from Brooklynn Peterson to cut the deficit to 7-6. At the 12:17 mark, the Captains leveled the game at 7-7 on a free position shot. RMC answered four minutes later while on the power-play with a goal from freshman Grayson Cornelius (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg), assisted by Fowler. CNU tallied the next two goals to take the lead 8-9, one at 7:40 and the other at 3:08.
- In the final 15 minutes of regulation, the Captains extended their lead with 8:47 on the clock. This sparked a three-goal run by CNU to take a 12-8 lead with four minutes left. At the 2:38 mark, Cornelius threaded a pass to Fowler to cut the deficit to three. 20 seconds later, the Captains found the back of the net once more, making the score 14-9. At the 1:59 mark, the Yellow Jackets capitalized on the power play when Reese Toth (Edgewater, Md./South River) found Cami McNeally (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) to cut the deficit back to four. While they were still on the power play, the Lemon and Black tallied another goal from Fowler, assisted by Toth. CNU possessed the ball for the final 30 seconds of the game, closing out the contest, 14-11.
