CARY, N.C. – The 12th – ranked Randolph-Macon softball team split a pair of games to begin its time at the two-day Triangle Classic on Saturday afternoon. In game one against Gallaudet,
Katerina Brabson (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) and
Kailey Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Colonial) tossed a combined no-hitter to highlight the day.

How it Happened (Gallaudet)
Game 1:
- Randolph-Macon came out of the gates hot with the bats. Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) led off the game, reaching first base by way of an error, followed by Mya Davis (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) moving over Powell with a single. Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) continued her amazing start to the year, doubling home Powell and Davis and giving the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead. Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) walked and Ripley Barry (Buchanan, Va./James River) loaded up the bases reaching on an error. Brabson drew a walk that brought home Hill from third and kept the bases loaded, RMC leading 3-0. Jacy Ramos (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) kept the runs coming with a single up the middle to plate both Boswell and Barry for a 5-0 lead for the Lemon and Black. The offensive pressure continued with a walk by Jordan Brown (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) to load up the bases once again. Alyssa Meharg (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) singled home Brabson and Davis was hit by a pitch to bring home Ramos and Randolph-Macon now led 7-0.
- The Yellow Jackets still batting in the first inning saw Hill grab her fourth RBI of the inning, doubling to score Brown and Meharg for a 9-0 lead for RMC. Five more runs would score by the Yellow Jackets in the inning and the lead was Randolph-Macon 14-0. Brabson knocked in Davis and Hill with a single and Brown cashed in two more runs with a double. The final run of the inning came from a Meharg double that scored Ramos.
- Brabson started the game in the circle for the Lemon and Black. The sophomore had a great start, striking out two batters and allowed only a walk for a clean inning.
- In the bottom of the second inning, Brabson continued her succes with two more punch outs in a 1-2-3 scoreless inning and keeping the lead at 14-0 for Randolph-Macon.
- The Yellow Jackets got a lead-off single by Ava Harper (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) to begin the third inning. Brabson singled in the at-bat to follow and both Harper and Brabson moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Avery Shifflett (Ruckersville, Va./William Monroe) loaded-up the bases with an infield single. Brown would bring home Harper on a hit-by-pitch to extend the lead to 15-0 for the Lemon and Black.
- Brabson dominated in the bottom of the third inning, striking out all three batters for Gallaudet and kept the no-hitter in tack.
- Jackson was sent in to pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning. The sophomore had a clean inning with two strikeouts to end the inning.
- In the top of the fifth inning, Kiley Lamberth (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville) singled home Ashley Bush (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) and Riley Koscinski (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester) for the final two runs of the game. Randolph-Macon now held a 17-0 lead with three outs to get to finish the game.
- Jackson completed the no-hitter for the Yellow Jackets with three straight strikeouts in the bottom of the fifth inning. Randolph-Macon took the first game of the weekend with a dominant victory over Gallaudet 17-0.
By the Numbers
- Brabson and Jackson tossed a combined no-hitter in the five inning game. The duo combined for 12 strikeouts in 16 batters faced. Brabson also finished the game with two hits and three RBIs at the plate.
- Hill led the team in RBIs with four in the game on two doubles for the Lemon and Black.
- Lamberth, Ramos and Meharg all recorded two hit and two RBI games.
- Brown ended the game with three RBIs and Davis tallied the final RBI for Randolph-Macon.
How it Happened (Meredith)
Game 2:
- Meredith took the lead in the very first inning of the game 2-0. Emilee Lewis and Mariah Bell had back-to-back singles to begin the game. Tess Spangenburg hit a one out single to plate Lewis and Kaydon Roberson reached on a fielder's choice to score Bell.
- In the second inning, Sierra Kegley (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) reached on a fielding error and later scored, as Powell singled up the middle and cut the deficit to 2-1.
- The Avenging Angels plated one run in the top of the sixth inning on a Bell single that scored Abigail Holt. The lead would be extended to 3-1 for Meredith, heading into the bottom of the sixth.
- In the seventh inning, Randolph-Macon was down to its final out before Meharg was hit by a pitch and Powell doubled to bring the winning run to the plate. Davis singled up the middle to bring home Meharg and Powell and tie up the game at 3-3.
- Meredith scored one run in the top of the ninth inning on an Ashbee Standridge sacrifice flyout to score Lewis.
- The Yellow Jackets had two opportunities to tie up the game with a runner at third base, but the Avenging Angels got out of the jam and secured the 4-3 win over RMC.
By the Numbers
- Kegley started the game for the Yellow Jackets and tossed 2.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits. The freshman struck out three and walked two in the game.
- Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) was first out in relief and threw 4.1 innings and gave up one run on four hits.
- Jackson finished the final 2.0 innings and took the loss, giving up the unearned run in the ninth inning.
- Davis led the Lemon and Black in the second game with two hits and two RBIs.
- Powell also recorded two hits in the game and accounted for the other RBI.
