SALEM, Va. – Randolph-Macon softball used impressive game two pitching and a huge fourth inning to gain a split over Roanoke in a Sunday matinee.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- Randolph-Macon got the scoring started in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) led of the inning by reaching on a fielding error and moved all the way to third base. Kiley Lamberth (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville) knocked in Boswell with a sacrifice flyout, during the next at-bat.
- Ava Colontrelle singled for the Maroons to begin the bottom of the second inning. Roanoke got a one out double by Carsyn Michaels to move Colontrelle to third and puts two runners in scoring position. Haleigh Vaughan singled up the middle to plate both Colontrelle and Michaels and gives the Maroons the lead 2-1.
- In the fifth inning, Heather McQueeney and Charlotte Gale drew walks to put pressure on Randolph-Macon. Aniyah Blake was sent in to pinch run and the bases loaded up with a third walk in the inning by Colontrelle. Molly Houchins broke the game open with a two out single to bring home McQueeney and Blake. Roanoke boosted its lead to 4-1 with two innings left in the game.
- The Yellow Jackets did not have a true scoring threat in the final two innings and the Maroons would take game one by a score of 4-1.
By the Numbers
- Kailey Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Colonial) started the game for the Lemon and Black, tossing 4.2 innings and gave up four runs on four hits. Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) threw the final 1.1 innings and did not allow a hit.
- Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenberg County) led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double.
- Mya Davis (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) and Ripley Barry (Buchanan, Va./James River) both recorded hits in the game.
- Lamberth ended the game with the lone RBI for the Yellow Jackets.
How it Happened
Game 2:
- Roanoke started game two with a single by McQueeney in the first inning. She stole second and moved to third on an error by the Lemon and Black with one out in the inning. McQueeney finished the impressive base running by giving the Maroons the lead on a wild pitch, RC led early 1-0.
- Randolph-Macon saw Sierra Kegley (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) settle down after giving up the first inning run. The freshman sat down nine straight batters, recording three strikeouts in the three inning stretch and kept the Lemon and Black in the game.
- In the fourth inning, the Yellow Jackets started to gain some momentum on the bases. Powell led of the inning with a single up the middle and Davis followed up by reaching on an error by Roanoke to push Powell to third. Boswell tied up the game with an infield single to plate Powell and move Davis to third base. Katerina Brabson (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) grounded out, allowing Davis to score from third and RMC took the lead 2-1. Randolph-Macon had two outs in the inning and Ellie Herndon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) singled to score Boswell and the lead would be pushed to 3-1 for the Lemon and Black.
- Kegley finished off the game in the seventh inning to give Randolph-Macon the split one the day. The freshman only allowed one hit from the second inning until the final out in the seventh inning. The Yellow Jackets used tough pitching and a big fourth inning to take game two 3-1.
By the Numbers
- Kegley started the game for the Lemon and Black, tossing her fifth complete game of the season. The freshman gave up one run on two hits and struck out four batters.
- Boswell, Brabson and Herndon all recorded one RBI each in the game.
- Ashley Bush (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) was the only Yellow Jacket with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
