NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The 24th – ranked Randolph-Macon softball team drew a split with #15 Christopher Newport, behind a no-hitter tossed by
Kailey Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Colonial) in game one.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- In the first inning, Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenberg County) led of the game with a single and stole second. Powell pressed the issue and stole third and forced a bad throw by the Captains to give Randolph-Macon a 1-0 lead.
- The Yellow Jackets started the third inning with back-to-back singles by Alyssa Meharg (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) and Mya Davis (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield). Katerina Brabson (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) drew a walk to load up the bases with no outs in the inning. The Lemon and Black cashed in with Jordan Brown (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) reaching on a fielders choice to score Meharg from third. In the next at-bat, Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) singled into right field to bring home Davis. The final two runs of the inning were scored on a fielding error by Christopher Newport. Ashley Bush (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) reached base on the error, allowing Hill and Brown to cross home and RMC took a 5-0 lead.
- In the fifth inning, Hill drew a walk and Kiley Lamberth (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville) singled in the following at-bat. Jacy Ramos (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) also walked to load up the bases again with zero outs. Bush broke the inning open with a double down the right field line, scoring Hill and Lamberth. Powell gave more runs to the Yellow Jackets with a double to plate both Ramos and Bush and shooting the Lemon and Black ahead 9-0.
- Jackson was elite in the circle for Randolph-Macon, tossing a no-hitter in five complete innings. The sophomore put a bow on the game, retiring the Captains in order in the bottom of the fifth inning and Randolph-Macon won 9-0.

- Jackson threw a no-hitter for the Yellow Jackets in five complete innings. The sophomore gave up only three walks and struck out two batters.
- Powell ended the game going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

How it Happened
Game 2:
- In the first inning, Powell led of the game getting hit by a pitch and moved up to second on a wild pitch and scored on the same play aided by a throwing error. Randolph-Macon took the early lead 1-0.
- The Yellow Jackets added more runs in the second inning, as Ramos, Bailey Talley (Craigsville, Va./Buffalo Gap) and Meharg drew walks to load up the bases. Davis knocked in Ramos with an infield single and Brown grounded out to allow Talley to score from third. The lead stretched to 3-0 for the Lemon and Black.
- The errors kept piling up for Christopher Newport in the third inning, following walks by Ramos and Talley. Powell reached on a fielding error by the Captains and sent Ramos home to score. Talley moved the RMC lead to 5-0, scoring on a wild pitch.
- Christopher Newport scored its first runs of the day in the bottom of the third inning. Candace Slaw led off the inning with a single and Brooke Zuber hit a homer to pull the Captains within three runs, trailing 5-2.
- In the fourth inning, Brown walked to lead off the order for Randolph-Macon. Brown moved up to second on a passed ball and Bush singled to put two runners on with one out. Lamberth reached on an error by CNU and Brown was able to score. Ramos drew another walk to load up the bases in the inning and another Captains error on the next play let Bush score. The final two runs of the inning scored on multiple errors on a play and the Yellow Jackets extended their lead 9-2.
- Katrina Swan drew a walk for Christopher Newport in the fifth inning and later scored on a Olivia Miller sacrifice flyout. Randolph-Macon still held a 9-3 lead.
- In the seventh inning, Randolph-Macon saw Powell double and later score on a Davis single up the middle and the lead grew to 10-3.
- Christopher Newport pushed for a serious comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning. The inning began with a single by Zuber and she was cashed in on a home run by Isabel Hall, cutting the RMC lead to 10-5. Simone Thompson followed the home run up with a solo homer in the next at-bat, pulling the Captains closer at 10-6. Miller kept the hits coming with a single, followed by Mackenzie Sowonik reaching on a fielding error and a Kimberly Jones single to load up the bases. Natalie Quinlin came clutch for Christopher Newport with a single up the middle to plate Miller and pinch runner Kelsie Rogers. Cora Thomas was sent in to pinch run and Slaw reached on a fielding error to allow the Captains to pull within one run at 10-9. Swan at the biggest hit of the day, hitting a double into left field and scored Thomas and Slaw to walk off the game and CNU took game two 11-10.
By the Numbers
- Sierra Kegley (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) started the game for the Lemon and Black, tossing 3.1 innings and gave up two runs on six hits. Jackson came in for relief and in 2.2 innings, allowed four runs to score on four hits. Brabson pitched the seventh inning and gave up five runs on four hits.
- Davis ended game two going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
- Powell, Brown and Bush all recorded an RBI in the game.
For the Record
- Powell moved into a tie for tenth all-time in career stolen bases with 23. The junior currently is tied with Harley James '18.
