How It Happened:
- Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) was hit by a pitch to get an early baserunner in the bottom of the second, before a sacrifice fly and wild pitched moved him to third. James Baffone (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) then tallied RMCs first RBI of the day, as he laced a single that pushed Quici home for a 1-0 lead.
- The following inning, the visitors got two of their first three baserunners on via walks. They first tied the contest at one after a tough groundball in the infield. The following batter registered a sacrifice fly to center, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead in the top of the third.
- Randolph-Macon found its offense in the bottom of the sixth, as Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) and Zach Stolze (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) registered back-to-back singles. Despite a fielder's choice, RMC loaded the bases thanks to a walk from Quici. Mason Bodnar (Arlington, Va./St. John's Prep) followed with a four-pitch walk, helping his team tie the contest 2-2. The Yellow Jackets then took a 3-2 lead, after Baffone was nailed by a pitch, forcing Jacob Hauk (Ellicott City, Md./Loyola Blakefield) home. Justin Lanouette (Chantilly, Va./Freedom) followed suit with a walk of his own, extending the home team's lead to 4-2. The line continued to move, as Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) drew a walk on five pitches, increasing the cushion to 5-2. The Lemon and Black really opened up the game, as it was Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) who drove a single to left, earning two RBI and a 7-2 lead for his squad.
- The Yellow Jackets continued to produce in the bottom of the eighth, as Baffone was hit by a pitch and Lanouette singled to center. Bowles was then hit by a pitch to juice the bases for Randolph-Macon, before an error from the Eagles shortstop permitted Baffone to scamper home for an 8-2 lead. Once Wernoski drew a walk to reload the bases, Schmitt ripped a sacrifice fly to center to give the Lemon and Black a 9-2 advantage.
