How It Happened
  • Carter Schuma (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) recorded three outs against three batters in both the first inning and the fourth inning.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, the Captains registered back-to-back singles with their first two batters to put runners on first and second. After a strikeout, CNU tallied its third single of the frame to take a 1-0 advantage. Within the following at-bat, the home team successfully executed a double-steal, giving them a runner on second and a 2-0 lead. CNU went on to take its third and final run of the inning, as a result of another single up the middle.
  • The Yellow Jackets responded in the top of the fourth, as Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) tallied a single as the first batter of the inning. Schmitt was then moved to second, thanks to a single to right from Brian Fleming (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen). On a 2-2 count, Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) took advantage of the runner in scoring position, as his single to left gave him and RBI and RMC a run on the board.
  • William Wian (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) entered the game in the sixth inning and didn't allow a baserunners in each of his first two innings of work.
