NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Randolph-Macon Baseball dropped a tough road contest against #20 Christopher Newport, in a game that saw impressive defensive play from both sides.

How It Happened
- Carter Schuma (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) recorded three outs against three batters in both the first inning and the fourth inning.
- In the bottom of the second inning, the Captains registered back-to-back singles with their first two batters to put runners on first and second. After a strikeout, CNU tallied its third single of the frame to take a 1-0 advantage. Within the following at-bat, the home team successfully executed a double-steal, giving them a runner on second and a 2-0 lead. CNU went on to take its third and final run of the inning, as a result of another single up the middle.
- The Yellow Jackets responded in the top of the fourth, as Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) tallied a single as the first batter of the inning. Schmitt was then moved to second, thanks to a single to right from Brian Fleming (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen). On a 2-2 count, Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) took advantage of the runner in scoring position, as his single to left gave him and RBI and RMC a run on the board.
- William Wian (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) entered the game in the sixth inning and didn't allow a baserunners in each of his first two innings of work.
By the Numbers
- Randolph-Macon drew three walks in the contest, while both Schuma and Wian allowed zero between them.
- CNU out-hit RMC nine-to-five, as they had one more RBI than the Yellow Jackets and one additional stolen bag.
- Schuma went five innings in the game, giving up eight hits, and three runs, while striking out four batters on 70 pitches.
- Wian provided three innings of relief, only giving up one hit on 30 pitches, while also posting an efficient five strikeouts in 10 batters faced.
- Schmitt was able to get on base three times, as the senior drew a game-high two walks to go with his single.
- While Quici had the RBI for RMC, Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover), Logan Duff (Forest, Va./Liberty Christian), and Fleming all tallied hits.
