How It Happened:
- In the bottom of the second inning, Brian Fleming (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen) stayed hot from his series against Messiah, as the sophomore singled to right. Logan Duff (Forest, Va./Liberty Christian) then came up to bat and belted a ball over the left field fence, giving his team a 2-0 advantage with his first homer of the season.
- The Red Devils responded in the top of the third, as two walks and a single led to the road team's first run of the afternoon.
- In an immediate response, Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) drew a leadoff walk before a single from Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) pushed Bowles to third. Then, Wernoski stole second before Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) drove a ball into right field for a single, allowing Bowles to earn RMC's third run. On the following pitch, Zach Stolze (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) was able to record an RBI, as his fielder's choice resulted in a run from Wernoski, putting the home team up 4-1 after three.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Duff was able to get on base for the second time in the afternoon after an error, as the senior followed it up with his second stolen bag of the season. With Duff on second, CJ Chatterton (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) uncorked the first home run of his career, as he drilled a ball over the right field fence to give his squad a 6-1 cushion.
- A single from the Red Devils, followed by two walks and a wild pitch, pushed the first run across the plate for the Red Devils in the top of the fifth. DC was then able to tack on two more to trail 4-6, after a pair of infield ground balls and a walk forced the contest closer.
- With one out, Schmitt and Stolze drove back-to-back singles into right field during the bottom of the fifth. After Jacob Hauk (Ellicott City, Md./Loyola Blakefield) moved the runners to second and third, they both scored to help RMC recapture an 8-4 lead, thanks to a double down the right field line from Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga). Duff and Chatterton followed the scoring with back-to-back walks to reload the bases for the Lemon and Black. Elias Brooks (Glen Allen, V./Glen Allen) then entered as a pinch hitter and smoked a sacrifice fly to center field, permitting Quici to tag up to give RMC a 9-4 lead.
- Wernoski started the bottom of the sixth with a blast, as he gave his team a 10-4 lead after registering a solo homer over the left field fence on a full count. Schmitt followed suit with a double to deep left, giving him a game-high three hits. Stolze nearly replicated the play, as he shot a double down the left field line, pushing Schmitt across the plate, for the Yellow Jackets' 11th run of the game. Quici then drove a ball up the middle, forcing an error from the Red Devils. On the play, Stolze was able to round the bases, extending RMC's lead to 12-4.
- In the top of the eighth, a batter was hit by a pitch after a couple of walks, shrinking the Yellow Jacket lead to 12-5.
