ASHLAND, Va. - Head coach
Ray Hedrick and Randolph-Macon baseball have announced the hiring of
Jake Zappia as an assistant coach on staff.
"Over the last two decades, we have developed arms as well as anyone at the DIII level," said Hedrick. "Our ability to evolve and provide our student-athletes with up-to-date resources, including coaches who are well versed in individualized programming and training, has been a proven model of success. Given his time at Driveline and a perennial power like Baldwin-Wallace, I have little doubt that Coach Zappia will enhance the standard that is pitching excellence at Randolph-Macon."
Jake Zappia arrives at Randolph-Macon after playing baseball at Baldwin Wallace University, where he helped the program reach the College World Series in 2022 and 2023. He returned as a coach in 2024 and 2025, contributing to a historic run that included the program's first-ever No. 1 national ranking, its first time hosting a regional, back-to-back conference tournament championships, and four straight regional appearances. Alongside his collegiate success, Zappia has worked in player development at Driveline Baseball and coached athletes ranging from youth to professional levels, with expertise in recruiting, scouting, and development.
Zappia graduated from Baldwin Wallace Univeristy with a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Management and minored in Athletic Coaching. He went on to earn his MBA at Baldwin Wallace in Strategic Marketing in July, 2024.
