RMC Baseball to Host First NCAA Regional

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon baseball team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship and will host a Regional for the first time in program history.

The Yellow Jackets will be the No. 2 seed in the Ashland Regional. SUNY Brockport will be the No. 1 seed, joined by No. 3 Messiah and No. 4 Methodist. All games will be played on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.

Tickets will be $10 per day for adults ages 13 and above, and $5 for youth 2-12, seniors 65 and over, and students of the participating schools with valid ID. Click here to purchase tickets

RMC is 30-15, recording 30 victories in a season for the fifth time. The Yellow Jackets had 33 wins in 2024, 32 in 2023, 38 in 2018 and 35 in 2016. RMC is 15-7 in the ODAC. The Yellow Jackets were the No. 2 seed and were runner-up in the ODAC Championship. RMC is No. 22 in the NPI.

Brockport is 36-3-2 overall and 21-1-1 in the Empire 8. The Golden Eagles, from Brockport, N.Y., won the Empire 8 championship to earn the league's automatic bid. Brockport is No. 11 in the NPI.

Messiah is 31-14 overall and 18-3 in the MAC Commonwealth. The Falcons, from Grantham, Pa., won the MAC Commonwealth title and received the conference's automatic bid. Messiah is No. 48 in the NPI.

Methodist is 32.13 overall and 16-5 in the USA South. The Monarchs, from Fayetteville, N.C., won the USA South championship to earn the league's automatic bid. Methodist is No. 72 in the NPI.

The Ashland Regional is the only one of the 16 regionals to have all four teams with 30 wins.

This will be RMC's ninth trip to the NCAA Tournament and seventh under head coach Ray Hedrick. This is the first time the Yellow Jackets have reached the NCAA Championship in three consecutive seasons.

In 1977, head coach Hugh Stephens and the Yellow Jackets received an at-large bid to the Division II Tournament and travelled to Valdosta, Ga.

RMC earned automatic bids to the Division III Tournament in 2008 (Danville, Va.), 2011 (Lakewood, N.J.), 2013 (Millington, Tenn.) and 2016 (Washington, Pa.), reaching the regional finals in 2016.

In 2018, the Yellow Jackets received an at-large bid and won their first regional title in Holly Springs, N.C. RMC earned its first trip to the Division III College World Series. The Yellow Jackets also garnered an at-large bid in 2023.

A season ago. RMC used an at-large bid to win the Harrisburg Regional. The Yellow Jackets hosted Adrian in the Ashland Super Regional and won two of three games to advance to the Division III College World Series for the second time.

RMC is one of two teams from the ODAC to participate in the NCAA Tournament and both will host Regionals. Lynchburg earned the league's automatic bid. Only three teams from Virginia made the tournament: RMC, Lynchburg, and Marymount.

The Yellow Jackets have faced seven teams in this year's NCAA Tournament field, including two in the Ashland Regional. RMC is 2-1 vs. Messiah, 1-0 vs. Catholic and Methodist, 1-4 vs. Lynchburg and 0-1 vs. Johnson and Wales, Oswego State and Salisbury.
