ASHLAND, Va. - The 18th – ranked Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets saw
Blayne Talley (Richmond, Va./Cosby) lead the team with two RBIs in game two in its doubleheader with #7 Virginia Wesleyan.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- Virginia Wesleyan struck for one run in the top of the first inning. Laci Campbell singled up the middle and scored on a Morgan Tucker two-out double in the right field gap.
- In the second inning, Julia Piotrowski singled on a bunt to begin the Marlins scoring threat. Sammi Deitsch reached on a fielding error at third base and both stole a base to put runners in scoring position with no outs. Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) recorded an out via strikeout for one out in the inning. Lexie Hudgens reached on the second Yellow Jacket error of the inning, allowing Piotrowski to score. Ellis sat down the next two batters to limit the damage to one run scored and Virginia Wesleyan extending its lead to 2-0.
- Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) tripled with two outs in the bottom of the third inning to grab Randolph-Macon its first hit. The Marlins worked out of danger to hold the 2-0 lead.
- Virginia Wesleyan added three more runs in the top half of the fifth inning to extend its lead to 5-0. The three runs were aided by two fielding errors in the infield for the Lemon and Black. Ellis struck out two more batters in the inning to add to her total of six in the first five innings.
- Neither team would score in the final two innings, as the Marlins would take game one of the doubleheader with a 5-0 win.
Inside the Numbers:
- Ellis started the game for the Lemon and Black, tossing all seven innings for the Yellow Jackets. The senior allowed five runs (two earned) on eight hits and struck out seven batters.
- Lanyon ended the game with the only extra base hit for Randolph-Macon with a triple.
- Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) had the only other hit for the Yellow Jackets.
How it Happened
Game 2:
- Tucker led off the second inning reaching by a fielding error on Randolph-Macon. Piotrowski walked and stole second to put runners in scoring position with one out. Joslyn Woodard singled in the hole at shortstop to reach with a single and bring in Tucker. Piotrowski scored later in the inning on a sacrifice flyout by Lexie Hudgens, giving the Marlins a 2-0 lead.
- Virginia Wesleyan saw Campbell single up the middle and score on a double by Tucker for the third run of the game. Olivia Knight singled to move Tucker over to third and Tucker scored on a wild pitch. Knight crossed home for the third and final run of the inning on a throwing error by Randolph-Macon. Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster) managed to work out of bases-loaded and zero outs to keep the Yellow Jacket deficit at 5-0.
- The Lemon and Black got the bats going in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kayla Davis drew a one out walk and Mya Davis (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) pinch ran. Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) reached by a fielding error by Virginia Wesleyan putting pressure on the Marlin defense. Mya Davis and Hill moved up into scoring position on a wild pitch and Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) drove in Mya Davis on a single up the middle. Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) kept the hit parade going with a single through the right side of the infield to plate Hill. The final run of the inning to score was Powell, scoring on a Blayne Talley (Richmond, Va./Cosby) ground out to cap off a three run inning. Randolph-Macon would cut the deficit to 5-3 after four full innings.
- Virginia Wesleyan added two more runs in the top half of the sixth inning to extend its lead to 7-3.
- In the bottom half of the sixth inning, the Yellow Jackets got back-to-back walks by Powell and Boswell and a wild pitch put both runners into scoring position. Talley grounded out to second base to score Powell and cut the deficit to 7-4.
- Randolph-Macon would get runners on base in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Marlins got the final three outs to gain a 7-4 game two win.
Inside the Numbers:
- Guthrie started game two for Randolph-Macon and tossed all seven innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on thirteen hits.
- Talley led the team in RBIs with two in game two for the Lemon and Black.
- Powell and Boswell each had RBIs in the second game of the doubleheader.
