LYNCHBURG, Va. - The 18th – ranked Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets saw
Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) break yet another school record and
Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) power the Yellow Jackets to a game two win, notching a split with Lynchburg.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- Alyssa Talayumptewa started the second inning with a double for Lynchburg and moved to third on a passed ball. Madison Barnes was hit by a pitch and with a double by Kaleigh Hackett that moved Barnes to third base, also would send Talayumptewa home to give the Hornets the lead. Barnes finished the two run inning, crossing home on a sacrifice flyout by Anna Grace Terrell to send Lynchburg into the lead 2-0.
- Randolph-Macon had huge opportunity to put runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning. Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) singled to begin the inning and Mya Davis (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) was sent in to run. Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) reached base on an error by the Hornets third baseman to put runners on third and second with nobody out. Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) reached on a fielders choice that saw Lynchburg throw out Mya Davis at home. Powell stole second to reset two runners in scoring position with one out. Lynchburg received back-to-back strikeouts by Emily Charlton to keep the Yellow Jackets off the board and hold a 2-0 lead.
- The Hornets added three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 5-0.
- Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) doubled to begin the seventh inning and scored on a Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) single to put the Lemon and Black on the board. Lynchburg recorded the final three outs and take game one 5-1.
Inside the Numbers:
- Ellis started the game for the Lemon and Black, tossing three full innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits. The senior also struck out three batters for the first game of the day.
- Kailey Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Colonial) threw two scoreless innings, allowing only two hits overall. The freshman also recorded a strikeout to hold the Hornets off the scoreboard. Katerina Brabson (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) appeared in the sixth inning, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits.
- Boswell ended the game with the only RBI for the Yellow Jackets with her single in the seventh inning.
- Blayne Talley (Richmond, Va./Cosby), Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick), Kayla Davis and Lanyon all recorded a hit in game one.
How it Happened
Game 2:
- Randolph-Macon started game two with a bang to take a 3-0 lead. Hill and Talley both singled to put pressure on the Hornet defense. Powell breaks the game open with a two out homer over the left field fence to jolt the Yellow Jacket offense.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, Lynchburg scored its first run of the game to pull the deficit to 3-1. Carly Hudnall singled and later in the inning scored on a Barnes ground out to shortstop.
- The Yellow Jackets added a must needed insurance run in the top of the sixth inning. Boswell doubled to begin the inning and scored on a Talley sacrifice flyout to extend the lead to 4-1.
- Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) tossed an amazing seven inning game, shutting down the Hornets in the bottom of the seventh inning. Randolph-Macon used the Powell three-run homer to complete the split against Lynchburg.
Inside the Numbers:
- Guthrie started game two for Randolph-Macon and tossed all seven innings, allowing one run on five hits to receive the win.
- Powell led the offense with a three-run homer in the second inning. Talley ended the game with the final RBI for Randolph-Macon.
- Lanyon and Boswell both doubled in the second game of the day.
For the Record:
- Ellis notched her 116th appearance in a Yellow Jackets uniform in game one, passing Candace Whittemore'19 for the most pitching appearances in school history.
