How it Happened
- It took over seven minutes of play for either team to register a goal, as both defenses were strong from the opening faceoff. The Tigers got on the board first at the 7:39 mark but were answered by a goal from Avery Tankersley (Baltimore, Md./Boys Latin) a minute later to even the score. Sewanee broke the tie with a goal with 3:27 left in the first. RMC had another answer as Logan Sinsebox (Monkton, Md./Hereford) knotted the score at two before the end of the first frame.
- Sewanee continued the back-and-forth affair with a goal to start the second quarter. RMC, once again, tied it as Tankersley netted his second goal with 12:09 left in the quarter. The Tigers notched two straight tallies to push their lead to 5-3, but Tankersley's hat trick goal brought the deficit back to one with five minutes to go until halftime. The Tigers added one more to their lead before the half, as they took a 6-4 lead into the locker room.
- The Yellow Jackets' defense came up big in the third quarter, holding the Tigers scoreless for the entirety of the frame. Tankersley continued his scoring ways with a goal at the 10:42 mark of the third before JJ Phillips (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) evened the score at six. Less than a minute later, Sinsebox put the Jackets in front, followed by a goal by Matt Carter (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) to complete the four-goal swing in the third frame.
- Two goals in the span of 1:02 allowed the Tigers to tie the score at eight in the first five minutes of the final quarter. Just 12 seconds later, Jacob MacMillan (Fallston, Md./Fallston) put RMC back in front, 9-8 with 10:26 to go. Sewanee wouldn't waver however, scoring again with 9:35 to go to tie the score, but once again, RMC answered just 20 seconds later with a goal from Sinsebox. With 5:47 left, Sewanee tied the score again, but the pattern continued as Grant Sobel (Mechanicsville, Va./Christchurch) netted the game-winner with 4:34 to go followed by strong defense to give the Yellow Jackets the win.
