How it Happened (Muskingum)
  • Ellis retired the first nine batters for Muskingum and would record seven strikeouts during that span. Randolph-Macon would be held off the scoreboard as well with good pitching from the Muskies.
  • The Yellow Jackets had a chance to grab the lead in the top half of the fourth inning. Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) singled through the right side of the infield and Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base. Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) successfully moved the runners over into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. The Lemon and Black would be turned away and the score would stay at 0-0, heading into the fifth inning.
  • In the next two innings, Ellis would keep the Muskingum offense at a stand still, not allowing any scoring opportunities. Randolph-Macon would get runners to third base in both the fifth and sixth innings, nothing would come of it and the score would still be tied at 0-0.
  • Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) hit a two out double in the seventh inning to start a potential rally for the Yellow Jackets. Powell knocked in Lanyon with a single into right center field. Powell would score later in the inning on an Ellis double into the left center field gap. The clutch two out hitting helped grab the Lemon and Black the 2-0 lead with three outs to get.
  • The Muskies were able to get two runners on base and bring the potential game-winning run to the plate with one out. Ellis shut the door with two straight strikeouts to seal a 2-0 ranked win for the Yellow Jackets.
