Matt Carter and
Austin Payne each as the Yellow Jackets fell to York (Pa.), 14-7, on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
- The Spartans got the scoring started with four goals in the first nine minutes of the game. The Yellow Jackets got on the board with 5:42 remaining in the opening stanza on a man-up goal by Grant Sobel (Mechanicsville, Va./Christchurch). The Spartans tallied one more goal before the end of the frame as they took a 5-1 lead into the second quarter.
- Austin Payne (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) cut the deficit down to three to open the second frame, as York led 5-2 with 11:40 before the half. After the Spartans added to their lead three minutes later, RMC trimmed it back to three with a goal from Matt Carter (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) at the 4:33 mark. York scored once more with 3:19 to go as they took a 7-3 lead into halftime.
- York came out strong in the second half, pouring in four goals to build an 11-3 lead with 7:58 left in the third. A goal by JJ Phillips (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) and a man-up goal by Matt Carter were split by a York goal as the Yellow Jackets inched closer with one quarter to play, trailing 12-5.
- The first two goals of the fourth quarter went in favor of the Spartans but RMC got back in the goal column with 2:14 to go thanks to a tally by Austin Payne. The Yellow Jackets added one more with 10 seconds to go on a goal by Logan Sinsebox (Monkton, Md./Hereford), but the Spartans took the win, 14-7.
Inside the Numbers
- Payne and Carter each tallied two goals. Carter also had a ground ball and a caused turnover, while Payne picked up two ground balls.
- Brodie Kent (Coquitlam, Canada/Centennial) filled the stat sheet with seven ground balls and a team-high five caused turnovers.
- Will Robertson (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) went 12-18 on faceoffs with eight ground balls. On the season, Robertson is winning 74.6% of his faceoffs.
- Jack Twomey (Reston, Va./Gonzaga) made 10 saves and had four ground balls.
