GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 14th – ranked Randolph-Macon softball team swept Guilford on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets saw
Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) record her first no-hitter at Randolph-Macon in the second game of the doubleheader.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- In the second inning, Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) and Blayne Talley (Richmond, Va./Cosby) drew back-to-back walks. Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) singled into right center field to load up the bases for Yellow Jackets in the inning. Jacy Ramos (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) recorded the third walk of the inning for Randolph-Macon and let Boswell walk home. Later in the inning Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) hit a two out single into left center field to score Talley and Davis, giving the Lemon and Black a 3-0 lead.
- Randolph-Macon kept the bats hot in the third inning, as Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover), Boswell and Davis all singled to load up the bases for the second straight inning. Hill was able to score on a passed ball that got away from the Quakers catcher. Boswell represented the final run of the inning, crossing home on a Ramos sacrifice flyout to left field.
- In the fourth inning the Lemon and Black for the third consecutive inning loaded up the bases. Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick), Lanyon and Hill all hit singles for Randolph-Macon with one out. Boswell flew out to right field to allow Sadler to tag up from third base and score. Talley would stay hot at the plate and single home Lanyon, extending the lead to 7-0 for the Yellow Jackets.
- The Lemon and Black added two more runs in the top half of the fifth inning to take a 9-0 lead. Ramos led off the inning with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) single into left field. Ellis would show off the wheels, stealing second to set up runners in scoring position with nobody out. Sadler knocked in Ramos with a hard hit single up the middle, the hit also moved Ellis to third. Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) reached on a fielding error by the Guilford shortstop and that allowed Ellis to score for the final run of the inning.
- Ellis finished off the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, retiring the Quakers in order and complete a 9-0 win for Randolph-Macon.
Inside the Numbers:
- Ellis ended the game as the winning pitcher and would record her twelfth win of the season. The senior threw five complete innings for the shutout, allowing only three hits. Ellis struck out six batters in game one.
- Lanyon ended the game with two hits and two RBIs for the Yellow Jackets. Ramos matched her teammate with two RBIs in game one.
- Sadler also recorded a two hit first game and knocked in a run.
- Boswell, Talley and Powell each recorded RBIs for Randolph-Macon.
- Davis and Hill were the final two players to end the game with two hits.
How it Happened
Game 2:
- Lanyon kicked off game two with a single down the right field line and stole second to set up herself in scoring position. Hill would be hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with two outs in the first inning. Talley came through with a two out single to bring home Lanyon from second. Davis followed that up with a double down the left field line to score Hill and give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead.
- In the third inning, Boswell and Talley hit back-to-back singles to kick off the Yellow Jackets offensively. Talley stole second and drew a throw from the Guilford catcher and with an error, allowed Boswell to run home and score. Later in the inning the Lemon and Black saw runners in scoring postion after Ramos walked and stole second. Jordan Brown (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) singled up the middle to plate both Talley and Ramos to extend the Randolph-Macon lead to 5-0. The bats reset with Lanyon hitting a single and Powell drawing a walk to load up the bases with two outs. Hill unloaded the bases with a double down the left field line to bring home Brown, Lanyon and Powell. The six run inning would grow the Yellow Jacket lead to 8-0.
- Guthrie sat down the final six batters of the game and overall did not allow one hit. The junior led the Yellow Jackets to an 8-0 win in five innings and her first career no-hitter at Randolph-Macon.
Inside the Numbers:
- Guthrie received the win in game two, pitching five scoreless innings, recording her first career no-hitter for the Lemon and Black. The junior now has notched her eighth win in as many starts for Randolph-Macon.
- Hill led the Yellow Jackets at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a double.
- Brown ended the second game with two hits and two RBIs.
- Talley recorded a two hit game and also had an RBI for Randolph-Macon.
- Davis hit a double and had the final RBI in game two. Lanyon also ended the game with another multi-hit game.
