FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The 23rd – ranked Randolph-Macon softball team swept Mary Washington on Thursday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets received impressive hitting performances out of
Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) and
Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover), as the two Yellow Jackets totalled eight hits and six RBIs.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- Randolph-Macon would strike first in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Powell drew a walk and would later come home on a Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) sacrifice fly out to right field.
- In the second inning, Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) led off the inning with a single through the left side of the infield. The freshman stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an Eagles error as Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick) reached first base. Jacy Ramos (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) singled up the middle and Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) was hit by a pitch to load up the bases. Sadler crossed home on a dropped fly ball that was hit by Powell and during the next at-bat Hill walked to score Ramos for a Lemon and Black 4-0 lead. Davis extended the lead with a single up the middle to bring home Lanyon and Powell. Randolph-Macon scored two more runs later in the inning, Blayne Talley (Richmond, Va./Cosby) doubled home Davis and Sadler singled home Talley. The Yellow Jackets offense exploded to rattle off a nine run inning and blast their lead to 10-0.
- Lanyon began the top of the third inning with a single up the middle and would score on a Hill ground out to second base. Randolph-Macon has now pushed its lead to 11-0 in the first three frames.
- Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) continued her success in the circle for the Lemon and Black. The senior kept Mary Washington out of scoring opportunities in three innings of work. Kailey Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Colonial) would face the final six batters of the game in relief and sat down the Eagles in order in the fourth and fifth innings. The game would end in the fifth inning, as Randolph-Macon toppled the Eagles 11-0 in mercy rule fashion.
Inside the Numbers:
- Ellis finished with her seventh win in as many starts this season. The senior struck out six opposing hitters in three innings of work, allowing only two hits overall. Jackson pitched the final two innings for the Yellow Jackets, striking out two and did not allow a hit.
- Talley and Davis both ended the game with three RBIs each to lead Randolph-Macon at the plate. Sadler and Hill pitched in with two RBIs each in the five inning game.
- The ten hits for the Lemon and Black were all recorded by ten different players in game one.
How it Happened
Game 2:
- Lanyon was hit by a pitch to lead off the first inning of game two for Randolph-Macon. Powell singled up the middle, moving Lanyon to third base and moved herself to second base by a Mary Washington fielding error. Hill knocked them both in to score with a hard single up the middle, giving the Yellow Jackets an early 2-0 lead.
- In the third inning, Lanyon singled to begin the inning, stole second and moved to third on a Powell single during the next at bat. Lanyon would score on the throw down to second base as Powell stole second base. The Eagles worked out of potentially giving up more runs in the inning, but the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 3-0.
- Randolph-Macon added to its lead in the fifth inning with back-to-back doubles by Lanyon and Powell. The second run of the inning would be scored by way of a Davis ground out that let Powell cross home.
- The Eagles got a run on the scoreboard for the first time on the day in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Bayly Yerigan doubled down the left field line and scored on a Hannah Steele single later in the inning. The Lemon and Black lead would sit at 5-1 at the end of the fifth inning.
- Madison Faries (Colonial Heights, Va./Colonial Heights) led off the seventh inning with a triple and scored on a Powell single into left field. This would be the final run of the game and the Lemon and Black took home a 6-1 game two victory.
Inside the Numbers:
- Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) received the win in game two, pitching six innings of one run softball for the Lemon and Black. The junior allowed one run on five hits and struck out one Mary Washington batter.
- Dylan McNerney (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) finished the game in the seventh with two strikeouts.
- Powell ended game two going 4-for-4 with two RBIs, a double and a stolen base.
- Hill recorded two hits and two RBIs for the Yellow Jackets.
- Lanyon stole two bases and hit a double in a 2-for-3 game two performance.
- Davis ended the game with the only other RBI for the Lemon and Black.
