ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse opened the 2025 campaign with a dominant defensive showing as they took down Mary Washington, 7-4, at home on Friday night.

How it Happened
- Mary Washington struck first with two goals in the first six minutes of the game. The Yellow Jackets got on the board two minutes later with a goal by Matt Carter (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) that was made happen by a caused turnover by Cooper Hauser (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello).
- Austin Payne (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) and Avery Tankersley (Baltimore, Md./Boys Latin) connected for a goal to knot things up in the second frame. Logan Sinsebox (Monkton, Md./Hereford) cashed in on an extra man opportunity to give RMC their first lead of the game. After UMW tied the score at three, RMC picked up two more goals before the half, including Payne's second of the game to five them a 5-3 lead at the break.
- It took 10 minutes of the third quarter for either side to score, as UMW cut the deficit to one on a man-up goal. Payne's third goal of the contest helped the Jackets extend their lead with 4:07 to go in the third.
- The Yellow Jackets' defense held firm throughout the fourth quarter, as they held the Eagles scoreless for the entirety of the frame. Payne netted the dagger with 5:22 to play, putting RMC up 7-4 with five minutes to go.

- Payne finished with four goals on six shots. He also picked up one ground ball.
- Tankersley dished two assists.
- Jack Twomey (Reston, Va./Gonzaga) made eight saves and held the Eagles to just four goals and just two even strength goals.
- Grant Sobel (Mechanicsville, Va./Christchurch) scored a goal and an assist.
- Mike Allen (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) finished with an assist, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
- Will Robertson (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) was strong in the faceoff circle, going 5-7 and picked up four ground balls.
- Sinsebox scored a goal and had one ground ball.
